Project plans

Creating opportunities for international exchange

The Sixth Asia Pacific Festival

This international exchange event has been handmade by citizens as an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding with our neighbors from the Asia Pacific region. Held under the theme, "Watch, get to know and taste Asia," the highlight was on Vietnam this time. Visitors to the festival enjoyed a Vietnamese folk concert with T'rung, the three-string harp, exchanges with Vietnamese families living in Kitanagoya, and an Vietnamese atmosphere.

International Fair

As an opportunity for international exchanges, KIIA set up a booth at "the Fureai Fiesta 2017," “the Sixth Triangle Fiesta,” and other events to deepen international understanding.

Kids art class for international exchange

As an opportunity for exchange between foreign students of Nagoya University of Arts and children, we held a kids art class. We hope they enjoyed spending time with people from other countries and became more interested in the outside world.

Nurturing people who will promote international exchange

Grassroots exchange programs

We welcomed and enjoyed exchanges with delegations from Muan County, Korea and Cabuyao City, Philippines. We encouraged citizens to play the main role in grass roots international exchanges.

Japanese language class for adults

We offered a Japanese language class for foreign residents to help them learn basic Japanese and adapt to life in Japan.

Japanese language class for children

Classes are offered to support foreign children who attend elementary and junior high school in this city to study Japanese and acquire Japanese necessary for everyday life.

Foreign language courses

For citizens, we offered 5 courses in 3 languages: 2 Korean courses, 1 Chinese course, and 2 English conversation courses.

Volunteer Training Programs

We held workshops and meetings for our volunteer members to improve their skills and develop their network.

Enrollment of volunteers

A total of 176 persons are enrolled as volunteers for interpretation, translation, events, Japanese language classes, consultation, and management and planning meetings.

Regional Development through International Exchange

Kitanagoya Local Brand Project

We have developed a vinegar drink with fig yeast and Icchan Bread with fig jam as Kitanagoya local brand products. These products have been promoted in campaigns with Icchan, an image character inspired from figs (ichijiku in Japanese) at "the Sixth Asia Pacific Festival," "Fureai Fiesta 2017" and other events.

Program for creating a multicultural society

We promote interaction and networking among local and foreign residents and families through various programs.

Program for creating a multicultural society

We held an "Industrial Study Tour for Foreign Residents" as an opportunity for foreign residents and their families them to make a communication network among themselves.

Program for international understanding

Dr. Hatsuho Ide, a pediatrician, gave a lecture on “How I got involved in international contribution by chance and encounters” as part of KIIA’s ‘International Contribution Series.’

Consultation for foreign residents

We open a consultation desk for foreign residents where they can come to share and find solutions for their problems with the staff.

Publication of newsletters

KIIA newsletters are tucked and distributed to all households in the city’s local paper " Kitanagoya Shimin Times" in July, November and April.

Facebook

KIIA activities are introduced and updated on Facebook to expand the network of exchanges.

Updating our website

We update our website with information on our activities, special events, various lectures, and member recruitment. Our volunteers make the foreign language version.
